Shady Grove Methodist Church is a small dilapidated church located in rural Chilton County. The church’s cemetery contains approximately 100 graves dating as far back as the 1870s to as early as the 2000s. The cemetery remains in use to this day with the earliest burial being the infant daughter of W. H. and Susan C. Driver in 1873. The families Baker, Calloway, Cooper, Hammell, Headley, Howard, Jones McKinney, Mims, Oden, Patillo, Thetford, and Traywick are commonly found throughout the cemetery. In 2014, John Blow of Prattville wrote to the Clanton Advertiser titled, “Abandoned cemetery needs to be preserved” to get the word out about the state of the property, but nothing has been done to preserve the cemetery.
